Speech generates analog signal with a microphone. This is first digitised and samples are stored. To produce echoes, for example, The same smples are fetched from memory one by one, mixed with a small percent amplitude of a previous sample and played back through D-to-A converter and amplifier-speaker system. Similar idead can be used for creating reverbrations etc.
